The evocatively-named Dhundhua Seha is a vast, con The evocatively-named Dhundhua Seha is a vast, concave cliff overlooking the emerald forests of Panna Tiger Reserve. When you look closer at the rugged cliff face, you find that what you assumed were rocks and crevasses are hordes of vultures. This terrain is part of what makes Panna such suitable habitat for several endangered species of Gyps vultures. A small stream runs from a shallow, rocky bed to fall a few hundred feet in a rainbow-making spray that lends the place its name. Vultures will gather gregariously right at the very edge of the cliff where the water falls, occasionally bathing, squabbling, or sunbathing. Swipe to get a glimpse of Dhundhua and its vultures! What strikes me most about this beautifully-written book is how the authors don't shy away from also talking about the failures; the not-so-big successes and the unintended side effects of their work. Conservation is unpredictable; a process and not an end point, and we WILL fail again and again - success is when you get back up and try again.
